Secrets of A Collaborative Leader: Jacki Zehner

We asked Jacki Zehner, CEO of Women Moving Millions, to answer three questions:

• What is one thing you’ve done to shift the limiting mindset of others?

• What do you know that you want others to know about collaboration?

• To increase your collaborative intelligence, where could you grow?

Jacki Zehner

What is one thing you’ve done to shift the limiting mindset of others?

I have acknowledged the limiting mindset of myself.

What do you know that you want others to know about collaboration?

Collaboration requires a different mindset than what we are used to. We have to move away from trying to one--up each other with our intelligence, our ideas, our credentials, in order for it to work. It is about creating a new kind of space that is truly respectful, inviting, and inclusive.

Collaboration requires skills that few of us are taught; in fact, we are more likely to be taught how not to collaborate. To work together effectively, we will have to challenge what we think we know and be open to doing things differently.

To increase your collaborative intelligence, where could you grow?

I need to know more about how to balance getting everyone’s best thinking on what to do with actually getting it done.
